Wrote up a narrative version of !Red's history, but was thinking of writing some fiction set in the modern !Red world.
Had some interesting ideas, but really wanna open them up to the community before incorporating them into a work of fiction.
So feel free to critique or add your own thoughts on what !Red society would be like! Also, the format on this is.. minimal, this is pretty much how I puked it out of my head onto e-paper.
-- military leadership is handed out on a per job/mission basis.
-- jobs handed out by a council that rotates among Administratives randomly. (dictated (nice pun!) by a computer?)
-- very eastern in being more social. All is about the social group, both small and large. Smallest "unit" would not be the inidividual, it would be one's close group of friends and family. Next one's neighborhood, then city/island (depending on size), and then the Mother herself (all the islands under the Motherland).
-- should Aptitude Tests be given and based on your performance you're assigned a job/industry?
-- Aptitude Test Day? When a child is 13? 15? 18? They are taken for a day long series of tests to determine their relative strengths and weaknesses. Family job lines are taken into consideration. After their strength is decided they are placed in apprenticeship. "Congrats, son, you're a fighter pilot! You'll be defending the Motherland!" Possible job categories: Administration (perhaps a rise to Admin is not assigned but granted after years of service in another field), Defense (Wall, Air, Police), Construction/Demolition, Aesthetics?/Arts?, Industry (natural resource acquisition, creation of planes and ammunition, etc.), Science (Automation? (people that take care of the computers)). List could go on and on.
-- everyone uses family terms to refer to each other.. brother, sister, uncle, aunt. Even son and father/daughter and mother when the relationship is one of respect or affection.
-- everyone serves in the military, how does that affect their day to day outlook? Do they all do things in a military style even in their daily lives? Do things in their daily lives reflect military drills, etc? Can one, if from a wealthy or influential family, skip the draft as in many countries with mandatory service?
-- The Uniter designed a system of fairness in which all would be equal and all would recieve their share - BL's quotes from the log should come from this era, he basically started the ideal socialism, but with a ruler at the head and a strong indie military composed of formal tribal leaders:
"Armed society is a polite society."
"To those according to their need, from those according to their ability."
-- also want to show the importance of the Wall(s) to people. They are not scary or bad, they keep the people of the Motherland safe.
-- in detailing the "clearinghouse" what are the important aspects we want to portray?
kk, that's all I've got right now.. might start the rough outline for the story tomorrow. Lemme know what you think...
